Anyone know the best way to warm knees up on cold mornings? I couldnt get moving this morning until the last round. So stiff and I only rowed yesterday! I'm wondering if some hot packs wrapped around both knees while the driving to town would help, so I'm more prepared for the workout?
You did well this morning robin, it would be great to see what you could do if your knees where firing. Heat packs can help, and they do feel dam good on a cold morning :). But you also want to warm up the muscle around them fully so making sure you get there in time for the full warmup that we do as group,or even start with some basic stuff ( airsquats, lunges, knee lifts, rowing) before everyone else (while they are chatting/waking up. You missed about 7 minutes worth of leg and knee mobilization stuff this morning so that could have been why the knees took a while to get going.
PS Yes you left your white jumper behind, its on the shelf waiting for you tomorrow morning or i will be at the box from 4:30 till 5:30pm today if you wanted to drop in and get it after work
muscles are not the problem, the serious ache/tendon/joint pain and tenderness in the knees is inflamatory arthritis, which tends to flare up in colder/drier weather
Hey Robin the Warm Up is the most important thing to getting those knees warm, het packs will only warm the first 10mm or so of tissue and while they may feel good they arent necessarily going to improve your ability to workout(but give them a try they certainly cant hurt).
A longer Warm up is going to be better for you and if that means you take it easy on the first couple of rounds of a WOD and then hit the last one hard - so be it.
I thought that Brett, ie a brisk 600 metre walk first not skipping straight up (thats a killer, the jarring)easing into squats and lunges after that. Swimming always works for me after the wod but its a bit cold at the moment. I mainly use the hot packs at night, stops the ache which starts up when I stop moving.

Thermoskin/neopreane knee braces may help as well to retain warmth.
